Who is the course for? All staff who may experience physical or verbal abuse.
How safe is your workplace?:
The British Crime Survey 2002/3 revealed 849,000 working adults were victim of one or more assaults or threats at work with healthcare workers, retail staff, security operatives, council employees and transport workers at most risk.
Employers need to consider:
- The physical and psychological effects of a victim of an abusive or violent incident in the workplace.
- The impact on other staff, customers or service users.
- The possibility of legal action from an employee or enforcement agency if duty of care is not upheld.
- Both the short and long term effects on performance, delivery staff motivation and staff retention.
- By introducing effective conflict management in an organisation the number of incidences of verbal or physical abuse can be significantly reduced as is the level of absenteeism caused by these stressful situations and quality of customer service is increased.
What does the course cover? It covers both the knowledge and practical techniques required to effectively deal with both physical and verbal abuse in the workplace.
What are the benefits? This course will enable the participants to assess and reduce the risk of violence in the workplace by identifying behaviour that could escalate into violence and take appropriate measures to avoid conflict and calm and defuse the situation.
How is it assessed? By multiple choice examination. Plus presentation and project assessed by the Tutor.
